5 Top Tips For Healthy Winter Skin

by | Oct 13, 2021

It’s here *big sigh*.

The dreaded season of grey skies and seemingly never-ending drizzle is unfortunately upon us. Now, I get that the weather outside might be cold, dull, and a little depressing, but that doesn’t mean that your skin needs to be too!

In Ireland, believe it or not, we actually have it relatively good as our mild climate means that we have a pretty mild winter when compared to other parts of the world. But our winters, although very humid, can actually cause irritated and dehydrated skin in a lot of people of various skin types. This is usually due to the use of central heating systems at home causing dry air, and, believe it or not, the effects of those long hot showers too!

During summertime, it’s only natural that we tend to pay more attention to our skin – scrubbing, cleaning and moisturising it to perfection. But, during the winter months we should avoid the temptation of trying to hide dry and dull-looking skin under huge woolly scarves and thick tights!

At skin&bodyworks we get that keeping your skin looking and feeling healthy during winter can be a challenge – that’s why we’ve come up with these top 5 tips to make your skin glow.

  1. Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise!

You may have likely found a moisturiser that works just fine in spring and summer, but as the weather conditions change, your skin care regime should too! Super Moisturiser and AVST 1 from Environ are particularly effective to achieve the desired effect during harsh weather!

Also, don’t forget about the power of supplements in moisturising your skin.

Personally, we recommend something like our Advanced Nutrition Programme Skin Range Skin Omegas+ to keep your skin feeling supple. Skin Omegas+ are formulated with vitamin A, a key ingredient for skin health, as well as omegas 3 and 6 fatty acids, and helps to nourish dry skin from the inside out.

This product is also made with premium, scientifically researched omega 3 from EPAX, a world leading supplier known for its purity, quality and innovation. They hold a ‘Friend of The Sea’ certificate, so you can be sure the omega 3 is sourced using methods that conserve marine habitats and resources.

  1. Add a cleansing gel to your winter skincare routine

A hydrating cleansing gel like our Environ SkinEssentiA Low Foam Cleansing Gel is a game changer in your winter skincare routine for dry skin cleansing.

Containing a combination of various surfactants and conditioning agents, this low foaming gel cleanser removes excess oil, make-up, and surface impurities while also helping to maintain your skin’s natural moisture balance, even during the winter months!

To use, it’s a real treat – simply massage a few drops into dry skin using upward strokes and then rinse with warm water. After using, it leaves your skin feeling refreshed, clean, and hydrated.

  1. Remove skin dullness with lactic acid

At skin&bodyworks we don’t really believe in or use scrubs for exfoliation. As an alternative we find that lactic acid is fab at hydrating and gently exfoliating the skin!

To achieve this, we recommend the Environ Body EssentiA Alpha Hydroxy Derma-Lac Lotion. This product is great as it’s a lightly fragranced lotion that actually helps to soften the texture of rough areas on your skin, such as elbows and heels, whilst also helping to boost the effects of the skin’s moisture levels.

Derma-Lac helps re-energise dull, tired-looking skin, and also helps to gently exfoliate the skin to improve the appearance of skin tone and texture, leaving it looking healthy and beautiful. It can also be used both on the body and the face as a toner!

Focusing just on your body, you can also mix the Derma-Lac lotion with Environ Body EssentiA Vitamin A, C & E Body Oil to feed the skin with active ingredients, allowing your skin to feel fab again!

Remember, the skin on our body is still skin, just like our face, and it needs to be taken care of just as much!

  1. Boost Vitamin C intake

Vitamin C acts as a powerful addition to any anti-ageing skincare regime.

Adding a little zest to return your natural glow, Vitamin C supplements such as our Advanced Nutrition Programme Wellbeing Range Vitamin C Plus tablets will help to brighten your complexion and give your skin the strength to battle through winter.

Vitamin C Plus contains 1000mg of Vitamin C, combined with bioflavonoids, to also help support your natural immune defences and to help reduce fatigue, especially during winter and into spring.

Studies have proven that in general, Vitamin C contributes to normal ‘energy-yielding’ metabolism, and contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. It also contributes to normal functioning of the immune system and to the protection of our body’s cells from oxidative stress, supporting healthy skin.

  1. Seek advice from an Advanced Skin Specialist

Dropping into your local pharmacy you’ll likely be hard pressed to find someone who can give you good advice. That’s why going to a skin specialist is a good investment.

This way you’ll be safe in the knowledge that a trained professional is the one analysing your skin type, troubleshooting your current skin care regimen, and giving you advice on the skin care products you should be using.
